draft report

There was a run through of report. Ms Faridah said mine was good. Had all the relevant data and evidence shown. What would be better to sum up my report will be if I add some reflections and personal thought on the search engines by giving constructive comments.

Sarah and I played the online game posted at ole. The questions are relevant to this module. Its like testing our level of knowledge. I have to admit, some of the questions I could not answer. Luckily there is a hint box.

Reflections

Today's lesson was basically about using meta search engine and subject directory to find relevant infomation based on my selected topic which is 'The impact of legalising same sex marriage.
Different types of Meta search engines:
Jux2
IxQuick
Kartoo
Mamma
MetaCrawler
Vivisimo

Based on my personal analysis, what i've found out is that Subject Directories results are more consized, relevant and straight forward unlike Meta Search engine(MetaCrawler) which is more broad and information obtain might not be what I'm looking for. This way, it helps to save my time while doing my research.

The next thing I learnt today was doing citation in APA(American Psychological Association) format. The reason to do a citation is to avoid plagiarism and to inform and credits to the sources quoted. What is needed to cite a website is basically
Author's last name, first name. (Date of publication: year, month, day). "title: cap initial letters." Retrived month, day, year from www. URL

The last lesson learnt for today was doing site feed at our blog. Brilliant! I can easily check my friends blog just by clicking on the link my page.

E shopping spree

If I am given US$500...

I've been eyeing for this phone since last year. With sleek and classic designed smart phone, its handy to carry anywhere. The reason why I choose to purchase this phone is because of its function. There is Wi-Fi function which allows me to access to internet easily and I can get latest news update just by a click. Do you know how interesting some homosexual can be? Join gays.com and you will find out. :) The phone costs $499.99 which left me with 1 cents. That means I spent within the budget! Thats, WOW!...~~

Lessons

I missed the 1st day of EIR lesson due to some miscommunication of the Add/Drop so thursday was my first day of class. I read my lecture notes to catch up with the rest so that I'll be in the same par as them.

Basically wednesday lesson was about blogs and wiki (i didnt know before that wiki stands for 'What I Know Is'), online forums abd RSS, podcasting and obtaining informations from the net.

Thursday's lesson was about strategies while conducting internet research. I find it really effective. It helps to facilitate not only my thinking, but also research the smart way. Before this, I didn't know that Boolen operators existed. After trying it, no doubt I'm going to apply it in my future researches.
Based on my analysis of using Google and Google Scholar, I personally like using Google as the result came out were exactly what i needed. The results shown for Google was 228,000 while Google Scholar shows 161,000. I can even get images and maps under one page. Google scholar only limits to certain article which is mainly from books.

Doing citation and bibliography is an important thing because it avoids plagiarism. Admitting something that is not ours is a big No No. I can still remember vividly the day i entered TP Design School. All of us were to sign a piece of paper promising that we will not plagiarise anything from anywhere.

I'm having complication with the forum section. which forum should i participate? do i have to take a risk if i were to participate in it? will i get into trouble? Oh Mdm Faridah.. i need your help!

Initially i wanted to choose research topic about 'Discuss the effects of eating disorder.' however, somebody had chosen that so i came up with my own research topic, which is ' Discuss the impact of legalising same-sex marriage.'. I have to admit that the topic can get a little bit controversy, whats more with religion and social context but I'm not going to give my personal opinion about the topic. It's strictly about the impact and the outcome of same-sex marriage.

1st entry.

Hey! What's up.

Short introduction about myself.
Ziza is my name. Currently doing diploma in Environment Design. Third year in the course (time really flies!).

When I'm not in school, I'll be helping my parents with their businesses. Their businesses has nothing got to do with my course but I find it a blessing. Know why?? This way I can expand my knowledge and skills in different areas. Isn't it cool? But i have to juggle my time and manage it carefully, which I'm still in the process of learning.

I'm the third among my siblings with two elder brothers. Eldest brother is currently serving the nation while my second brother (the yellow hair guy) is going to graduate from Temasek Polytechnic this May. (Should i elaborate about my family tree? Okay.. Maybe not.)

Taking two modules this block which is Effective Internet Research(EIR) and EVD P4. No doubt with the busy schedule, I don't even have time to pamper myself. (Wonder if I am going to end up looking like a zombie by the end of this semester.)

When I'm free to surf the internet, I would usually spent most of my time chatting with friends and catching up with them. Surprising to hear that 3 of my friends are engaged or getting married soon at a very young age! Other alternative besides chatting would be 'blog-hopping' where I would visit my friends blog or their friend's friend. Just some random person whom I don't know and reading about their lives. Interesting facts.

My favourite shopping website would be Mango!
The reason I MUST visit that page is because I'm a big, no wait. i mean I'm a HUGE fan of Mango clothing line. This website allows me to check out their new and latest collection. If there is anything that caught my attention, I would just drop by the store and grab them. This way, it helps to save my time selecting which outfit to choose.

*I have a question in mind. Are we supposed to blog formally or just be ourself and express our innerself? going to ask Mdm Faridah when i meet her this Tuesday*
